Expedition Lapland
Expedition Lapland is an international brand organizing professional expeditions and treks into the harsh regions of the Arctic Circle. Our task was to create a cohesive visual identity system that captures the authentic character of northern nature and sets the brand apart in the outdoor market.
challenge
The primary challenge lay in developing a graphic language that steers clear of generic mass-tourism clichés. The mark design had to maintain absolute legibility across vastly different scales – from physical branding on expedition apparel and outdoor gear to digital profile formats and social media avatars.
strategy and identity system
The entire design process was anchored in an analysis of four alternative creative directions (reindeer, mountains, polar star motifs, and pure typography). The core of the chosen concept features a geometric synthesis of a reindeer head, with antlers transitioning into vertical lines of varying heights that directly echo the light waves of the aurora borealis. This ensures precise logo scalability and shape integrity.
The color system relies on contrasting organic, matte tundra tones – deep green, graphite, and sand – with vibrant, luminous cyan and green gradients used across the brand's digital channels.
results
The project resulted in a complete, cohesive visual identity system strongly rooted in the geographical context of Lapland. The new graphic language establishes a distinct international brand presence, seamlessly merging a raw, expedition-driven character with a modern digital presentation aesthetic.
